AECI Appoints Alan Dickson as Group Chief Executive Officer

Executive Transition at AECI Limited

AECI Limited, South Africa’s largest explosives and specialty chemicals manufacturer, has officially welcomed Alan Dickson as its new Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Director, effective July 1, 2026.

The transition marks the conclusion of a comprehensive executive search process overseen by the AECI Board and its Nominations, Governance and Directors Affairs Committee, which evaluated both internal and external prospects. Dickson succeeds Dean Murray, who served as interim CEO since October 2025 following the departure of former chief Holger Riemensperger. Murray remained at the helm through June 30, 2026, to guarantee a seamless leadership handoff.

Extensive Industrial Track Record

Dickson is a seasoned corporate executive with more than two decades of senior leadership experience across diversified industrial, manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure-driven industries:

  • Tenure at Reunert: Dickson spent 29 years with the JSE-listed diversified industrial and technology group Reunert Limited, serving as its Group CEO from 2014 to early 2026.
  • Proven Performance: During his time leading Reunert, he earned a reputation for disciplined capital allocation, driving operational excellence, and generating long-term shareholder value.
  • Academic Credentials: He holds BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as an MBA with distinction from the Wits Business School. He is also a registered member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers.

Strategic Vision for the Future

The Chairperson of the AECI Board, Philisiwe Sibiya, expressed strong confidence in Dickson's ability to steer the group through its next chapter:

"The Board is delighted to appoint Mr. Dickson as Group CEO of AECI. He brings a strong track record of disciplined execution, operational excellence, and value creation in complex, listed industrial environments. His experience aligns well with AECI's strategic priorities of strengthening performance, maintaining an uncompromising focus on safety, leadership, and delivering sustainable growth."

Upon stepping into his new role, Dickson underscored AECI’s rich heritage and emphasized his collaborative vision:

"It is an honour to be appointed group CEO of AECI, and I look forward to working closely with the board and leadership teams to advance the group's strategic priorities. AECI is a business with a strong heritage and clear foundations, built by its people, and I look forward to contributing to its long and sustained legacy."

Looking Ahead

AECI operates broad industrial divisions across Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, North America, South America, and Australia. With Dickson's formal appointment now in effect, the multinational is poised to accelerate its global growth strategies, emphasizing safety, efficiency, and market expansion.
