Membership Requirements
Guidelines for joining the International Alliance of Alans.
- Name Requirement:The individual must be legally named “Alan,” which reigns as the standard spelling, and be known by “Alan” as the name they are commonly called. Middle names or last names containing “Alan” do not qualify unless the individual can prove that “Alan” is the name they go by in everyday life. All alternative spellings, including traditionally female variations and other culturally specific forms, are subject to review by the Board of Alans.
- Age Requirement: The individual must be of legal age and legally capable as defined by their country of residence. They must possess the legal ability to make decisions and enter into agreements independently.
- Non-Legal Alan (LILAAC):For individuals whose legal name is not Alan but who have been using “Alan” as their primary name for at least seven continuous years, they can apply for full membership by providing verifiable evidence. Upon successful verification, the Alliance will issue a certified Living Life As Alan Certificate (LILAAC), officially recognizing their membership status.
- Membership Fees: Ordinary Full Membership is for life and does not require any fees. However, participation in executive committees or involvement in specific sub-functions may require fees.
- Non-Discrimination Policy:As long as one’s legal or justifiably assumed name is “Alan” or a recognized variation, the Alliance shall not discriminate based on gender, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, political beliefs, or personal opinions.
- Associate Membership: Open to friends, family members, partners, or spouses of Alans who want to support the community.
- Sponsorship: Must be nominated or sponsored by at least one Full Member (an actual Alan).
- Privileges: Can participate in public and internal forums, attend Alliance events, and enjoy community perks.
- Limitations: Cannot hold executive positions on the Board of Alans and do not hold voting rights on matters concerning core Alliance rules.
- Membership Termination:A member may terminate their membership at any time by submitting a written notice. Membership may also be terminated if it is based on fraudulent claims of the name “Alan” or for actions that harm the Alliance.
