MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Name Requirement:
- The individual must be legally named “Alan,” which reigns as the standard spelling, and be known by “Alan” as the name they are commonly called. Middle names or last names containing “Alan” do not qualify unless the individual can prove that “Alan” is the name they go by in everyday life.
- All alternative spellings, including traditionally female variations and other culturally specific forms, are subject to review by the Board of Alans. Final membership approval will be based on precedents and board decisions.
- The Board of Alans ensures that all accepted name variations uphold the integrity and spirit of the Alliance.
Age Requirement:
- The individual must be of legal age and legally capable as defined by their country of residence. They must possess the legal ability to make decisions and enter into agreements independently.
Non-Legal Alan and the LILAAC Certificate:
- For individuals whose legal name is not Alan but who have been using “Alan” as their primary name for at least seven continuous years, they can apply for full membership by providing verifiable evidence.
- Upon successful verification, the Alliance will issue a certified Living Life As Alan Certificate (LILAAC), officially recognizing their membership status.
- The LILAAC Certificate serves as proof of name within the Alliance and in other relevant contexts.
Membership and Fees:
- Ordinary Full Membership is for life and does not require any fees.
- However, participation in executive committees or involvement in specific sub-functions within the Alliance may require fees, which will be determined by the respective committees or functions.
Membership Termination:
- A member may terminate their membership at any time by submitting a written notice of termination to the Alliance.
- Membership may also be terminated if it is based on fraudulent claims of the name “Alan” or any variations, as determined by the Board of Alans.
- Additionally, membership may be terminated by a disciplinary committee if the member is deemed to have committed actions that harm the Alliance or the broader world. The decision of the disciplinary committee will be final.
Non-Discrimination Policy:
- As long as one’s legal or justifiably assumed name is “Alan” or a variation recognized by the Board of Alans, the Alliance shall not discriminate based on gender, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, political beliefs, or personal opinions, provided those beliefs do not actively infringe upon the rights of other members.
Associate Membership (for Family, Partners, or Spouses of Alans):
- Associate Membership is available to individuals who are family members, partners, or spouses of full members.
- Associate Members may participate in Alliance events and activities, but only when accompanied by their associated full member.
- Associate Members do not hold voting rights or full-member privileges.
- This membership remains valid as long as the familial or partnership relationship with an Alan continues.
