THE LILAAC CERTIFICATE
The LILAAC Certificate, short for Living Life As Alan Certificate, is a special certification issued by the International Alliance of Alans. It’s issued to individuals who do not have “Alan” as their legal name but have demonstrated that they have been using “Alan” as their primary name for at least seven continuous years in their daily life. The certificate serves as formal recognition of their name.
Key Points about the LILAAC Certificate:
- Eligibility:
Individuals whose legal name isn’t Alan but can provide verifiable evidence that they have used “Alan” as their ordinary name for at least seven continuous years are eligible for the certificate. This could include evidence from legal documents, work records, or testimony from peers that “Alan” is the name by which they are commonly known. - Issuance:
Once the evidence is reviewed and approved by the International Alliance of Alans, the Alliance issues the LILAAC Certificate to the individual. This certificate officially recognizes their name as “Alan”, and holders of the certificate are eligible to become members of the Alliance. - Purpose:
The LILAAC Certificate serves as proof of the individual’s name within the Alliance and can be used to verify their identity as an Alan in other relevant contexts, such as events, gatherings, or activities where being recognized as an Alan is important. - Recognition:
While it does not grant legal name changes, the certificate is a symbol of long-term dedication to the Alan name and is respected within the community as proof of one’s commitment to the name and identity of Alan, and may be recognized circumstantially in legal contexts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My legal name is Alan, can I still apply for a LILAAC certificate?
A: Yes. There are no restrictions on who can apply for LILAAC. As long as your daily name is “Alan” and there is reasonable evidence thereof (this includes your legal name being Alan), a certificate will be issued.
Q: How can I prove that I have been using the name “Alan” for a continuous period of seven years or more?
A: You can prove seven years of consistent use through documentation such as public profiles, signed statements from colleagues or friends. Social media accounts, publications, business cards, or official correspondence that list you as “Alan” can also serve as evidence.
Q: The documents have private or sensitive information. Do I have to provide the entire document?
A: No. You may opt to obscure or remove sensitive information from your document. As long as the document is linked to you, and provides circumstantial evidence that you used the name “Alan”, other parts of the document are not necessary.
Q: My application for my LILAAC was approved. Am I now a member of the Alliance of Alans?
A: No. Your LILAAC certificate is only a prerequisite for membership if your legal name is not Alan. Becoming a member of the Alliance of Alans requires a separate enquiry through our Join Us page, or in-person.
